July Writing Craze: Day 5!!

Hi everyone!
Sorry this is kind of late, but better late than never, right? :)

Around eleven o’clock, the night closing in, and the stars going out, Velvet tip-toed into cabin 2A, not wanting to awake Yori.  Creeping quietly into the second bedroom, past the green curtain, Velvet placed her wet towel on her bed and started getting ready for bed.  Velvet reached under her bed for her toiletries case, grabbed the handle, and brought the case up to the bed.  She let go of the handle to move her towel out of the way, allowing the unstable case to crash to the hardwood floor, spilling all of its contents.  Velvet shut her eyes in suspense and sighed in mild frustration when the light flipped on.
“Well, hello,”  Yori snapped, sitting up in her bed.  Her eyes took no time adjusting to the light as if she was anticipating Velvet’s arrival.
“Hi, did I wake you up?”  Velvet asked, draping her towel over the end of her bed.
“Let’s cut the small talk.  We both know we’re thinking about the same thing,” Yori said bluntly, pushing the covers off her legs.
            “We are?”
“Are we going to fight over Brody?”  Astonished, Velvet couldn’t push a word from her throat.
“F-fight over him?”  Velvet stammered, almost wanting to laugh.  Her and Brody wouldn’t get together if they were the last two people on Earth.  They were friends, always had been, always would be.
“Yes, he is obviously single.  There’s one of him and two of us.  How is this going to go down?”  Yori continued, sitting up straight and looking Velvet straight in the eyes.
“You aren’t mad at Brody for getting your suit wet?”  Velvet asked, trying to clear at least one thought in her mind up.
“Mad?!”  Yori laughed, tucking a loose hair behind her ear.  “Getting my suit wet was so cute.  It’s called flirting, Velvet.”
“B-but, you were glaring and you screamed and…stormed away,”  Velvet stuttered, trying to connect her thoughts.
“I’m a good actress, Velvet.  I was playing hard to get.”
“You were….what?”  Velvet replied, still confused.
“It’s when you get a guy’s attention by—“
“I know what playing hard to get is; I’m just confused that you…like Brody,”  Velvet remarked.
“It is what it is,”  Yori said, giggling a little.
“But…why?”  Velvet said, thinking two things.  One was that she was happy her roomie had found something good about Camp Sing-Song and was starting to settle in.  And secondly, Velvet was thinking about how Brody didn’t exactly like Yori…at all.
“Are you kidding?”  Yori asked, responding to Velvet’s earlier question.  “He’s so cute!  He seems like the type of guy to throw wild parties and do daring things, like jumping off a cliff or something.  You know, heroes like that need a stunningly beautiful woman on the side to complete the flawless story,”  Yori answered.  Velvet hadn’t heard Yori speak as much as she was then and Velvet wasn’t going to ruin it.
“So, I see you’re settling in…”  Velvet said tentatively.
“Well…after I called my mom and found out there wasn’t an escape, I analyzed my options:  be a social loser and stay put in my room or take a look outside and see what was in front of me.  Plus, when I saw Brody swimming and splashing around, I knew Camp Song-Song was the place for me,”  Yori shared.
“Camp Song-Song?”  Velvet asked, but Yori wasn’t listening.
“That’s why I need to know if there’s going to be competition.”  Yori suddenly became very serious.
“Me?  Competition?  For Brody?”  Velvet laughed, cringing at the strange-sounding idea.
            “Yes…”  Yori replied, becoming impatient.
“We’re just friends.  There is no competition coming from this girl at all,”  Velvet responded sincerely.  Yori breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.  Velvet hadn’t seen such a genuine smile from Yori…ever.
“Good.  So!  Tell me everything about Brody,”  Yori said, leaning in towards Velvet as if they were sharing deep secrets.
“W-what?”  Velvet asked, laughing as she changed into her pajamas.  Why would Yori want to know everything about Brody from her when Yori could find all that out herself?
“I need to know…what he likes, what he doesn’t like…”
“Just start up a conversation with him and you can find that all out on your own,”  Velvet suggested.
“But, how can I have good conversation starters if I don’t know what he likes?”  Yori asked, standing up.  Yori was wearing very fancy pajamas, a silk or something elegant like that.
“Cool PJs,”  Velvet commented.  Yori ignored her and pressed the issue about Brody.
            “Spill,”  Yori said.
“I don’t know, Yori…”  Velvet started.  “Isn’t it kind of weird for me to tell you everything about Brody?”
“You obviously haven’t been to slumber parties, or the right ones, at least.  This is what you do when rooming together, you gossip and you spill the beans,”  Yori replied, taking out her skillfully tied up hair and combing her fingers through its silkiness.
“Mostly, my friends and I talk about celebrity crushes and who we think is cute.  If we want to know about our crushes, we talk to them,”  Velvet said, wondering if she and her friends were doing something wrong.
“You never stalk their Facebook?”  Velvet shook her head.  “Look up their ten latest tweets?”  Velvet whipped her head back and forth.  “You’re the one who’s been to camp for her whole life!”  Yori exclaimed and quickly threw her hair up in a bun.
“Okay,”  Yori said pointedly.  “We need to plan this.  You tell me everything about Brody and I’ll tell you everything about…Matt!”  Yori suggested brightly.
            “Matt?!”  Velvet practically screamed.
“Yeah, he’s totally into you,”  Yori said matter-of-factly, nodding her head vigorously.
“Into me?!  Plus, I already know what I want to know about—“
“Say no more.  I will find out all I need to know about Matt and then spill it over to you,”  Yori said.
            “But-“
“Ahh, ahh , ahh,”  Yori clucked her tongue, not allowing Velvet any more say.  “I’m handling this.  Don’t worry about a thing, just tell me everything about Brody.”
Velvet wanted to scream, but Matt is in love with you!  but liked seeing her roomie so lit up and comfortable that she didn’t want to mess any of the up-and-coming plans.  It would be what it would be.  Velvet would leave it all to Yori.

See you tomorrow all!
And remember guys:  Write what you know; it's the easiest to start a plot when you know what you're writing about!! :)
